Draft NPDES General Permit AKG282100
And Related Regulatory Documents (EPA 2012)
For Oil and Gas Exploration in the Beaufort Sea, Alaska

In January 2012, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released for public review the Draft NPDES General Permit AKG282100 for the Beaufort Sea, Alaska. The EPA has
administratively extended the existing General Permit (AKG280000) that nominally expired in June 2011.

The existing permit (2006) is intended to cover Arctic Ocean oil and gas exploration in coastal and offshore Alaska, which includes both the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. The public comment period for this
draft permit ended March 30, 2012 but the EPA has not listed the public comments on its draft permit webpage. The 2012 draft permit is also variously labeled as AKG-28-2100. EPA plans to issue separate
permits for the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas in October 2012.
